Be kind, rewind
This is a Public Service Announcement brought to you by the person who reads all the angry letters the internet ever wrote.
Sometimes having a skill, a job, at being good with internet trolls & assorted blue meanies is rewarding. Sometimes, it’s just exhausting. Mostly amusing. Often, all three.
So, since you’re grown, and people that I love enough to get real with, let me drop this ish. If I catch one of you writing a mean email, rolling your eyes at a barista, or being snotty to your bartender, you’re off the list. Don’t be unkind just because you’re annoyed that your mochachinofrappesoyte is late. Just don’t.
Instead, just indulge my hippie-dippie self today. Smile at someone today who needs it. Hold a door open even though it’ll take you another 5 seconds to rush back to your desk. Send your mom a nice note. Greet your grocery clerk with eye contact. Wave at a firefighter. Walk a different way to work or the bus and think about how mundane and magical it is.
Your forefathers and mothers crossed oceans for you to sit here on a computer reading some dreck a chick wrote about kindness. Living in the future is fucking awesome! We have soap, avocados, a million kinds of bourbon, “Glee”. You can type without a keyboard.
Someone in your life hangs the moon on you, so give a little kindness today from that space of awesomeness to someone who needs it. Even if it’s you. Doubly so.
